6th Grade Curriculum Choices [2019-2020]
Good morning, friends! Today, I'm sharing our sixth-grade curriculum choices with you.
This is my son's last year in the Classical Conversations Foundations and Essentials programs. (He will be "graduating" to the Classical Conversations Challenge program next year.) A lot of his schoolwork is comfortable--very much like a well-worn pair of jeans. Therefore, I anticipate that my greatest challenges will be filling up my son's time with academic work and keeping him challenged. These tasks will be extra-difficult since the only section of Latin for Children C offered through Scholé Academy does not work with our schedule. SIGH.
Read on to see what we'll be up to this coming school year!
Classical Conversations is a wonderful program that assists me in teaching many subjects! These include Bible, math, English grammar, writing, Latin, history, fine arts (drawing, tin whistle, great artists, and orchestra), science, and geography. For the sake of avoiding repetition, I am not going to include CC in the list below.
- Bible: Midweek School, Sunday School
- Math: Saxon with corresponding video lessons by Nicole, The Math Lady
- English Grammar: Essentials of the English Language and IEW Fix It! Grammar
- Writing: IEW Medieval History-Based Writing Lessons
- Literature: We read lots of great books! I frequently reference Read-Aloud Revival when choosing literature.
- Latin: Latin for Children C
- Spanish: Duolingo
- Fine Arts: piano lessons, field trips to our local theaters
- History/Timeline/Social Studies: Story of the World read-alouds, CNN 10
- Science: Science in the Beginning
- Geography: map tracing
- P.E.: swimming and tennis lessons
*Note: My son is a grade level ahead in Math. I would typically recommend the Saxon Math 7/6 for sixth graders.
