Currently I'm...
I haven't checked in for a while, so I thought I'd pop in with a casual Friday post, inspired by Erin's post over on Living In Yellow!
Currently I'm...Making // Fish, french fries, and steamed broccoli for dinner, but I'm not going to be eating it! [See "Excited for" below.]
Listening to // The baby monitor rotate between three white-noise machines: Conner's, Logan's, and Theo's. Shane is humming "The Pink Panther" theme in the living room while he is supposed to be reading the first Hardy Boys book. [Hmm... I'll be right back.] OK, no more "Pink Panther." The dishwasher is also running, as usual. In my dream world, I would have two dishwashers. Or paper plates wouldn't kill trees. Either one of these would totally work.
Wishing // I could find balance. I recently read this post by Erin Loechner at Design for Mankind. She began with a metaphor comparing our lives to stovetops of simmering pots: friends, family, health, and work. "To be successful, we must turn off one burner. Better yet, two." Well, my "health" burner has been turned off for a while now, and I'd like to turn it back ON. I ran three times this week, and it felt ahh-mazing! I'm also on a seven-day streak of doing two-hundred crunches a day. However, I know another burner is going to suffer, and I'm struggling with it mentally.
Sipping // Zevia "Ginger Root Beer." If I had any Skinny Pop popcorn left in the house, you can bet I'd be munching on that too.
Ignoring // That nagging voice in my head that is telling me I have ten lessons of All About Reading to prep for Conner. Eh, it's almost the weekend anyway.
Excited for // Going out to dinner tonight with friends! Oh my, this has been the longest week, which, incidentally, I also said last week. (Boo, January/February!) We're going to a British pub-style restaurant, and I can't decide if I'm going to be "good" and order a salad or treat myself to some fish and chips. Either way, there WILL be wine.
Grateful for // Our home. Even though I try to limit my viewing of shows like Fixer Upper and lurking on my favorite design blogs, a sense of dissatisfaction still manages to creep in. Which is ridiculous because I know we are so, so blessed! I even thought of giving myself a 30-day challenge of finding thirty things I love about our home, but I couldn't even finish the 30 Days of Thanksgiving challenge, so I'm not about to start another one!
Getting sidetracked by // My children. Shane's timer went off, so he had to tell me all about the board game tournament he's setting up downstairs. Logan just came down the stairs all sweaty and pink-cheeked asking if he could watch Llama, Llama on Netflix. AT least 50% of my kiddos are still napping!
Dreaming about // Spring! It's a frigid 12° F outside right now, but the sun is SHINING and there is no snow on the ground. As long as I'm indoors, it's easy to pretend it's spring!
Reading // Kayla Aimee's newest book In Bloom. It's so, so good and really encouraging me to dig deep and revisit stuff that I had buried for a long time. [By the way, if you pre-order her book from LifeWay Publishing, you can get your hands on some pretty sweet bonuses! You will get two copies of In Bloom, one for you and one for a friend, and a copy of Kayla's first book, Anchored, which I also loved! Offer good through February 5.]
Saying thank you to // the Lord for allowing us to be healthy right now. [I hope I'm not jinxing myself. I am also knocking on all the wood, laminate, whatever surfaces.] Logan reported that 7 of the 19 students in his preschool class were out sick today, and he had a substitute teacher the last two days. Dan's and my parents were struck hard with Influenza A, which is hitting our area hard and hasn't even peaked yet!
Leaving this post because // That voice telling me to prep the reading lessons is winning. Doesn't it have an OFF switch?
