Disney Day 0: Traveling to Milwaukee

If you haven't done so already, please be sure to read my Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Disclaimer! Publishing this series of Disney posts is really scary for me, and I want you--my friends--to know where I'm coming from when writing these posts!

I meant to take a picture of my outfit each day of my trip. I'm pretty sure this is the only day I remembered. Haha! Ten points to anyone who can spot the oatmeal container in this photo! (My five-year-old was using it as a drum.)

I'm kicking off my Disney World series with what I anticipate will be the shortest post. I can sum up our morning and early afternoon in two words: packing insanity. Praise the Lord for my servant-hearted mother, who watched the boys so I could make final preparations!

If you purchase a "Magic Your Way" package, you'll receive some adorable luggage tags with your Magic Bands, which are delivered about a month before your trip. They are typical luggage tags for writing your contact information and don't *do* anything special. They're just a cute perk from Disney.

Our goal was to leave the house at 3:00 PM, drive to Milwaukee, eat dinner, and check into our hotel located near the airport. We pulled out of the driveway at 3:45 (not too far from our goal) and, to my horror...

The "low tire" light clicked on immediately. Thankfully, Dan assured me that our problem was due to it being the first really cold day of fall, and a little air from the gas station would get us road-ready in no time! Lots of other people seemed to be having the same problem because two gas stations later...

We were on the road again! We arrived in a suburb of Milwaukee around 5:15 and dined at Chick-Fil-A. If you know our family, we simply must stop at this restaurant whenever we're in the Milwaukee area! After stuffing ourselves with nuggets and waffle fries (a Cobb Salad with grilled chicken and Avocado Lime Dressing for me), we continued our journey to the hotel.

We arrived at the hotel around 6:00. By the time we had the room set up, it was Theo's (age 2) bedtime. We weren't really sure how he'd do in the Pack 'n Play, but he did great! (If you ignore the game he played of throwing his stuffed animals out of the crib and expecting someone to retrieve them for him.) Our five-year-old didn't have any night terrors, so that was also a win! The biggest problem was our oldest boys having trouble sharing a bed.

"He's in my area!"

"No, he's in my area!"

We kept these two separated at night for the remainder of our vacation.

There's not a whole lot more to say about our travel day! The next day was much more of an adventure. We flew to Florida, rode The Magical Express to our resort, settled into our resort, and stuffed ourselves with the BEST buffet we've ever had in our lives. Oh, and be sure to scroll all the way to the bottom of this post for a $-saving Tip and links to my other Disney posts!

XO,
Kristin

Theo didn't even need a FastPass for this ride!
The Middles decompress relax while we set up the room.

$-saving Tip

  • I priced it out, and it was actually cheaper for us to drive down the night before our flight and use the hotel's "Park and Stay" package than it was for us to drive down the morning of our flight and park at the airport! It would be easier on our little ones, too, (less traveling in one day) so we considered it a win-win!

I will see you back here next week for Day 1 of our trip to Disney World. In that post, our bodies will actually be in the state of Florida!
