Water Balloons, Birds, and Foam Dice:
My 36th Birthday

I celebrated my 36th birthday on Monday, so I thought I'd pop on and share a bit about my day!

I woke up to breakfast in bed, which was only mostly cold after getting up half-way through to nurse Theo. Dan made me my favorite THM (S) breakfast--two eggs scrambled in butter (with onions!) and two pieces of turkey bacon with creamy coffee.

The boys treated me to lots of great gifts when I headed downstairs. To give you some background information, we have a tradition in which we take the boys to Dollar Tree and let them pick out their own gifts. They need to pay for their gifts with their weekly "commissions" (as Dave Ramsey would say). It's always so fun to see what they pick out! Logan gave me "water balloons," which were actually just regular balloons. 😉

Conner presented me with a pair of white bird ornaments.

"Oh!" I exclaimed. "Did you get me these pretty birds to decorate our Christmas tree?"

He smiled shyly. "I just thought you would like the birds."

Conner also stayed up late Sunday night making me this masterpiece of a sticker page!!

Shane gave me a pair of foam dice to replace the ones he "borrowed" from my teacher supplies.

Theo's too little to understand gift-buying, but he helped me open the gifts!

After Dan went to work, my morning was pretty much the normal routine: dropping off Logan at preschool, guiding Shane in his school tasks, teaching Conner, and giving Theo countless pecks on his cheeks. Around noon, the head installer from our local windows and doors store stopped by to check on some installations we weren't totally happy with. It turns out that that door with which we were most dissatisfied was an easy fix, but the door that we thought was fine was quite a bit wonkier! The installer was very focused and not in the mood for any birthday chit-chat (ha!), but thankfully Dan popped home to drop off some TRIM HEALTHY MAMA-FRIENDLY CUPCAKES!!! Sorry, I just had to shout that. They are a chocolate cake topped with fluffy coffee-flavored frosting, and they are ON-PLAN!!! Sorry, again, for the shouting. I can't help myself. (Local friends, they are from The Cake Guru and are actually marketed as "Keto cupcakes." They don't stock them all the time, so you either have to get lucky and find them in stock, or they will bake them for you if you order a dozen or more. My wonderful hubby ordered a dozen for me. Good thing they freeze beautifully!)

Even though I treated myself to sushi and red wine this week, I hit my lowest weight in years. I've lost 17+ pounds since July!! Love me some Trim Healthy Mama!

I resisted the urge to eat the cupcakes and carried out my usual afternoon tasks--flipping the laundry, cleaning the kitchen, Bible study (which is a joy and not a task), and monitoring littles.

My mom and dad came over (yay!), and Dan left work early (double-yay!), so Dan and I headed out for 5:00 reservations for sushi and hibachi. Sushi is very much not on-plan for THM, but... Oh well, it was my birthday! I was able to make the hibachi meal a bit more slimming by skipping the rice and eating the meat and veggies only. And--trust me--I was still stuffed.

I was going to pass on the sherbet, but the waitress brought it out anyway. (I think she *really* wanted to treat me to make my birthday sparkle. 😉

When Dan and I arrived back at home, the whole gang sang me "Happy Birthday," and I blew out the candle in my scrumptious cupcake. Conner had sampled a bit of the coffee-flavored frosting during my Keto-cupcake-test-run. (You wouldn't think that I'd leave such an important thing to chance, would you?) He didn't care for the flavor, so the boys munched on a giant fudgy brownie crusted wtih M&Ms.

My parents headed home, and Dan and I considered playing 221B Baker Street, one of my favorite board games, but I was teaching CC Essentials the next day, so I crawled into bed to review my lesson plans instead. Just call me a #partyanimal.

Thank you to everyone who made my birthday such a special day! I'm so grateful that God has allowed me to celebrate 36 birthdays on this earth. It is my greatest desire to bring him glory and honor for the remainder of my days.

Cheers to another year, friends!

XOXO,
Kristin
